Our God delights in working with the least and the weak, the sinful and the self-doubting. Whoever you are, God can use you. All you need is to be willing. Don’t rule yourself out.

Advent Day 18: Be Ready to Listen to Outsiders
This story of the Magi also shows us that Christmas is for everyone, not just people who talk like us or believe the same things we do. Let’s welcome others in and open up our horizons this Christmas. Just like the Magi, let’s be open to the gifts, talents and insights of others. Let’s not be so busy with our own agenda this Christmas that we miss something extraordinary happening right down the road.
Advent Day 17: Following Jesus Won’t Be Easy
Following Jesus won’t be easy. We like to hear comforting messages at Christmas, but these verses belong to Advent as much as the more familiar and pleasant ones. We will have trouble in this life, just like Jesus did, but remember that we’re on the winning side. And when life gets tough, Jesus promises to be there with us and to equip us to be able to face it.
Advent Day 16: Simeon and The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit can come on anyone. It is a badge of honour to still be serving God in old age. God’s promises will always be fulfilled, no matter how long it takes. And the Holy Spirit will lead us precisely where we need to be if we’ll let him. All this we can learn from the life of Simeon.
A Sound Mind
A Sound Mind. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7, NKJV) Fear, selfishness and worry seem to be the hallmarks of our global society at the moment, evident all around the world and in the vast … Continue reading A Sound Mind
Remember Your Leaders
Remember Your Leaders. “Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.” (Hebrews 13:7) This is a hard time for all of us, and it would be easy to become inward-focused and dwell only on our own concerns. But … Continue reading Remember Your Leaders
He Will Sustain You
He Will Sustain You. “Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken.” (Psalm 55:22) What’s sustaining you at the moment? Each day that passes it’s getting harder to be away from the people I love and my normal routine. What sustains me … Continue reading He Will Sustain You
Be Joyful in Hope
Be Joyful in Hope. “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” (Romans 12:12) If Covid-19 had a honeymoon period, it’s worn off by now. I still feel a little dazed by the events of the second half of March: the blistering news headlines, the unexpected upheaval, the epic government interventions … Continue reading Be Joyful in Hope
Blessed Is The One Who Trusts
Blessed is the one who trusts. “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no … Continue reading Blessed Is The One Who Trusts
Overflow with Hope
Overflow with Hope. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13) I love this verse. It didn’t quite make it into my list of Strongholds last year, so … Continue reading Overflow with Hope
