God is an Ever-Present Help in Trouble

God is an Ever-Present Help in Trouble.

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”

Psalm 46:1

Do you need a refuge right now? Somewhere to shelter and stay safe? Do you need strength today? Increased mental, physical and emotional resources to cope with the challenge of these times? If your answer is yes to either or both questions, God can give you what you need. God is our refuge in these times, He is ‘our fortress’ (v. 7, 11). God is our strength.

These are certainly troubled times. Ancient Israel sang this psalm to remind themselves of God’s help whenever they were threatened. We need to be singing it, or at least reading it, just as much. Just look at verse 6: ‘Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall’ – does that sound relevant? Or maybe verses 2 & 3, which talk about mountains falling and waters roaring, strike a chord because this is a time when everything seems to be falling apart.

Well, God is here for us. He’s present in this time. Not just some of the time, not fleetingly, but ‘ever-present’. He’s always there. You can turn to Him whenever you need, whenever you’re in trouble, confident that He is always present. Let His presence strengthen you in whatever trouble you face.

The whole world might be melting at the moment (v. 6), but ‘The Lord Almighty is with us’ (v. 11). Listen to what He says:

Be still, and know that I am God.” (v. 10)
